It is increasingly clear that political change is needed if we are to build an improved society that puts long term planning and social justice at the top of the agenda.

Young and old are disillusioned with short-term politics.  As a consequence the Green Party has been gaining support in the North East and in October 2009 it launched a separate Green Party branch in Sunderland.

Our focus issues are clearly stated at the top of this page for all to see and yet more depth is provided on the About Us page.

We act according to our consciences to put the interests of the people of Sunderland first above any dogma. 

We will not oppose ideas which are right and fair but originate from someone outside of our party.  Rather we will happily work with other progressive groups to help Sunderland to become a sustainable city: clean, safe, friendly and proud.

Our aim is to act boldly and sensibly to build a world which is fairer, safer, and ecologically sustainable.

We campaign through a variety of methods to promote a better society where every person, in this and future generations, will be entitled to basic material security as of right.

Fundamentally, we recognise that the planet's physical resources are finite and we threaten our and other species future if we try to live beyond our means. We therefore must build a sustainable society that guarantees our long-term future.

Unlike other parties we seek to directly address the problems faced by human civilisation.

Clearly the Green Party's task is an ambitious one but just as a jug fills drop by drop, by acting locally we can do our bit to address the issues we all face.
